The answer is 'yes' to both. Nitro Kart is indeed inferior to Crash Team Racing, but in my opinion, it is the best original post-Naughty Dog 'Crash Bandicoot' game.
For the most part, it captures the spirit of CTR, there are a lot of fun tracks to race and the storyline/cutscenes are pretty fun.Crash Tag Team Racing is a fun game and definitely worth a play, but I find that I enjoy it more if I remove the expectations associated with the Crash Bandicoot IP. It feels nothing like the other Crash games, and if the character had been someone other than Crash, I think people would be less harsh with their criticisms toward the game. The racing has nothing in common with CTR and Nitro Kart and it's ridiculously easy to win. There is a fair amount of platforming as well and there isn't really any challenge there either, but it's fun to mess around with.
It's a quirky game that does what it does pretty well. Just know that this won't get you prepped for CTR: Nitro Fueled because it's a very different approach with a very different intention. Imho CNK is actually a good game, the problem is that if only it didn't have better graphics you could think CTR was the refined sequel to it, as it did everything else better. Nitro Kart has indeed worse handling, but for me by far the worst thing is that it had a lot less content than its predecessor had: 13 tracks, while all good, are really few, and three quarters of them just feel like obvious clones or mash-ups of CTR tracks. But if you haven't played CTR yet, I think you'll like CNK better than if you had.Tag Team Racing is a game I played a lot when it came out. So when I was eight, and I don't think there's much that would make me replay it. The racing aspect of it is average at best and kinda seems only an excuse for the silly plot; it's funny because it's silly as you get to throw cows or submarines onto your opponents, instantly destroying their cars.
And that's it. There's the overworld section which is a kind of extremely easy platforming where you'll spend most of the time trying to get all of the cutscenes where Crash dies in strange ways. It actually has literally nothing to do with CTR and CNK except for having Crash, Cortex, etc. Driving on karts. Yes to both.CNK has some issues with the controls, especially when compared to its predecessor, but it's still a great game that is loads of fun.
Personally I feel that the tracks, music, new characters, and overall atmosphere of the the game set it apart enough from CTR so that it doesn't feel like an inferior copy.CTTR gets allot of hate for a variety reasons, and I feel that allot of it is unwarranted. It goes beyond just being a racing game-there is platforming and mini-games, and I feel that both are handled pretty decently. Let me also mention that the battle mode is very chaotic and allot of fun-probably the best battle mode out of all three games. CTTR has lots of flaws and is definitely unbalanced, but is worth playing for sure.Overall I'd rank then: 1.
Though they are all good games.

Product Information. This third racing game to star the perma-grinned bandicoot puts a new spin on the genre standards of chaotic, combat karting. As in the GameCube's popular Mario Kart: Double Dash!, two players can team up in a single vehicle, so one can steer while the other handles weapons and defense. Unlike in Double Dash, however, the method by which two characters accomplish their team-up is part of the fast-paced gameplay. Any two racers can combine their karts and team up on-the-fly, just by crashing into one another and pressing a button. An amusement park area serves as a hub to the different track events, but offers a number of its own activities as well. Between races, players can talk to park patrons, collect useful coins, and partake in a number of mini-games.
When they're ready for a real race, the game features five main tracks - Mystery Island, Happily Ever Faster, Tyrannosaurus Wrecks, Tomb Town, and Astro Land - each set in a themed environment. Entrance to the racing areas must be earned, leading players through a progressively more challenging series of competitions. Crash Tag Team Racing is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!I'm a Crash Bandicoot fan, but even if your not you'll like this game. You can clash car blow other karts sky high and,the middle of that, race.
Its not all in car however. You can walk around five different worlds on foot and unlock other cars in singleplayer. Collect Die-o-rama's and play minigames. There is so much to do in this game. Some dislikes are multiplayer mode. You basicly have to unlock everthing there but in order to do that you need two or more people to play to get more points to unlock things. After this game you'll become a Crash Bandicoot fan too.
