Those who have trained their brain to a healthy age can now test its 'weight' in Big Brain Academy, the second title in Nintendo's medley of mental mini-games. The title includes a series of brain-stimulating exercises designed to improve thinking, memorization, computation, analysis, and identification.

After taking an initial test to identify cognitive strengths and weaknesses, players will receive a brain weight score that will hopefully increase over time with daily practice in each of the five categories.Academy features a total of 15 mini-games and two play modes: test and practice. Each test involves trying to correctly answer as many questions as possible within a time limit. From that point on, players can practice individual mini-games to win bronze, silver, gold, and platinum medals. All activities utilize the handheld's touch-screen interface, from tapping on objects that weigh the most to drawing lines between two characters. Ideally, becoming familiar with the games in Practice mode will better equip players to take the Test, which will result in higher scores, letter grades and possibly a different occupational choice. It would be easy to dismiss Big Brain Academy as simply another brain game and move on; but the truth is, it is unique enough to distinguish itself from Brain Age. Unlike the latter title, Big Brain Academy is clearly less results-focused and more about having fun, rather than a daily exercise.

It easily positions itself as a possible companion for the other title, as both offer different experiences. For experienced, hardcore gamers choosing between the two, Big Brain Academy is likely the better choice. The swift, frantic pace of the timed games has an almost WarioWare-like ambience about them, and the immediacy of going for a high score will seem more familiar than the play-every-day that Brain Age requires. The truth is, Big Brain Academy offers little depth, and almost no immersion, because the gameplay is so start-and-stop. But Big Brain Academy succeeds because of its simplicity and accessibility. This is a game that literally anyone can play, and it provides short bursts of fun regardless of prior gaming experience.

You take turns scoring the most you can on a certain test then the player at the end with the most points wins the game.You can also compare your Brain Ages with all the other mii's.

All an All its a fun game and definitly makes you feel smarter. Better on the WiiI had played the Big Brain Academy on Nintendo DS prior to buying the Wii version. I enjoyed the game on the DS, but the only competitive aspect was comparing your brain score to someone elses.

On the wii, there is a multi player part that is very fun. You go up against another person and you can pick the type of exercises or choose random to get a little of it all. You both are competing to see who finishes their excercises first. It is a split screen, so there is no waiting on one person to play and then the next (like the DS).

You can also pick specific exercises that you may not have excelled at and just practices those over and over. This can come in handy, since a couple of the exercises can be tricky.

This is not for younger children, it is fun for those who like the 'brain type' games. In comparison to the game Smarty Pants, I think this is much better. It is also more practical, in that everyone can do these types of exercises it is just about how fast you can do them.

In Smarty Pants, not everyone is up on famous poets, artists, or even sports trivia. I would recommend buying Big Brain Academy, it's fun and if the claims are true, you may even become smarter!. The kids do not feel as if they are 'getting educated', but really just playing.It can engage the entire family-not only the kids- but the adults too(up to eight can play)-As a parent I think this is very important- I do not think games should isolate children, but rather share experience with others.One thing I didn't like was that even after a few rounds of playing-it seems a bit repetitive- the skills and exercises didn't change much.I bought this game with the idea that it could help some my children develop a few general skills good for everyday school work.
